Get your own website!

Ok, the title of this post sounds harsh but it got your attention but I will explain here why it is very important to have your own courier website should you wish to enter into the courier world.

I was asked very recently by a longstanding member of Fetch It Now should he spend his hard earned money on having a website? My answer to this was yes! In the check list of things to do to become a courier it would be as high on the priority list as the van, insurance and fuel!

So why do I recommend having a website for your courier business so highly? Well, cast your mind back a several, hmm may be more, years. The way you would normally find a courier service would be to consult the annual distributation of the Yellow Pages. Now days the book gets used for a multitude of other reasons except the one that it was designed for. Infact I cannot tell you when the last time I even picked it up! To me the traditional paper directory is dead by all accounts as everyone consults their favorite search engine. In doing so it is the search engines job to make sure that the most relevant webpages are shown to the user when they click on the Search icon.

This brings me nicely onto the reason why you need a website and the case for it is pretty clear. By having a website you can allow all search engines to find your business. Not only this but the site can be tailored to your needs not some 1/4 page slot or text line in a barely used directory that is the last resort in most cases.

If like the majority of people out there the thought of running your own website scares you like the next bout of diesel price rises then help is at hand.  There are other websites out there that can assist you in getting a site up and running with very little effort. Essentially you are given a basic template to complete with a choice of your wording eg your telephone number, hours of work, rates etc etc. Normally this could cost as little as £50 if not less. However the quality between a template driven site and a professionally created site are vast.

Having a courier website professionally created for you will:

1. Rank higher in the search engine results than a template driven site
2. Catch and keep your new potential customers attention
3. Give the potential customer a feeling of confidence before they even speak to you

One thing I already know is that by using the term "Professional" and "Website" in the same sentence is probably ringing all sorts of alarm bells of COSTS! The cost of the website should be incorporated into your normal outgoings like your van, insurance and fuel. Think of it like this. What would the cost be to your business be if you had no more new customers and then for whatever reason your current customers left/or stopped trading.
